MORE INFORMATION
WHAT IS TROLLING?
Trolling is
basically driving around in the boat with lures out in the water
while we wait for the fish to bite. It is a relaxing way to
fish, enjoy the day on the water in beautiful surroundings and
with a bit of luck you might even catch a trout for dinner! NO
EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
BOOKING GROUP SIZE
All of our tours are
usually private, that is - you book yourself and bring your own
party.
We do not have daily
organised charters where you book as an individual and you share
the booking with others. We find that personalised tours are
best.
If there is only you
and you want to share the cost with someone else then we will
try and find someone for you to share with but it would be
your responsibility to book a time and pay for the trip first.
Advantages of going
alone are that your captain will also fish an extra two rods for
you, so instead of fishing with just two rods you get to grab
the captains rods as well (if your quick enough!)
The boat is surveyed
for 8 people however we recommend that 4 people fish (that is
one rod each) and group size maximum is 6. there is no guarantee
we can get 6 rods into the water, you must take turns.
AGE LIMITS
There is an age
limit for Children. We find that under 8 is too young to have on
the boat for extended periods, due to safety reasons. 2 hour
tours can be arranged for children between the ages of 5 and 8
but only if the child remains seated at all times.
BOOKING TIMES.
Most bookings during
summer are either early or late in the day however we can
arrange times to suit every party.

FOR BEGINNERS - STAGE 1
Fly fishing is a
sport that requires the angler to be able to cast the fly line
with a reasonable degree of accuracy and gracefulness to enable
the artificial fly to land on the water in a way which will not
scare off the fish.
To enable an
angler to do this, you must first have casting lessons
and I recommend that you at least start with a 2 hour fly
casting lesson to get you started. I then recommend that you
purchase or hire tackle and continue to practise until you feel
confident enough to go on to our 2nd stage, a fly
fishing lesson. A fly fishing lesson can be conducted on
either the lake or the river.
BEGINNER CASTING
LESSONS. Prices
include all tackle.
2 hours - $130.00
Private
one person.
2 hours - $150.00
2 people
share (Extra person is $40 ppp2h)
3 hours extended please add another $70 for 1 person or $90 for two people)
The more people in
your group the cheaper the lesson - please ask for a quote!
STAGE 2
After you have
had a little casting experience, it is time to learn how to
fly fish.
You can firstly
learn to fish the lake (recommended) or you can learn to fish
the river (slightly more technical).
When you learn to
fly fish, you will be taught how to select the right fly for the
conditions of the day, and then you will learn how to use that
fly in an effective manner to catch fish. You will learn how to
‘read’ the water and other conditions that will affect the way
the fish will feed on the particular day. What you learn in 2
hours with a professional fishing guide, would take you more
than 2 years by yourself, even with the aid of books and videos.
STREAM, RIVER and
LAKE CRAFT. (Boat fishing
methods also available)
For those that have
already done a little casting, we also teach lake, river and
steam craft.
A skill which is
very necessary to be able to catch fish.
2 hours - $160.00
Private
one person. (Extra people is $50 ppp2h)
3 hours - $220 .00
Private
one person (Extra person is $70 ppp3h)
The more people in
your group the cheaper the lesson - please ask for a quote!
STAGE 3
After you have
learnt to fly cast and had some basic instruction on fly fishing
techniques, it’s time to book into an extended guided fly
fishing tour! (SEE PAGE 1
FOR PRICES)
On a guided
tour, you will actually be putting into practice what you have
learnt over stage 1 and 2. You will be guided through the best
way to catch the trout given the ‘conditions of the day’. This
is the most difficult part of fly fishing, that is, being able
to make an accurate assessment on the best way to catch the fish
given current conditions. You will also be guided onto different
types of waters, with the emphasis on the best place to fish
depending on the conditions of the day!
Again, this is
the best way to speed up your fly fishing ‘career’ to give to
you most success. This will result in you having the most
enjoyable time of your life!
Even if you don’t
catch fish, fly fishing isn’t always about catching fish, it’s
about being out in the open country, relaxing and enjoying the
beautiful scenery.
As they say ‘Fly
fishing isn’t a sport, it’s a religious experience!’.
Gillies WEEKEND Fly Fishing Courses
For those that
have the time to take a weekend off, a fly fishing course is the
BEST way to learn. You start by learning all about and
assembling the tackle, tie the knots. Then learn to cast, learn
all about entomology and correct flies to choose. Learn how to
fly fish a lake, a river and a mountain stream, and lots, lot’s
more. On the weekend course you can sign up for instruction only
or we can provide a complete package including accommodation and
most meals. Meet others with similar interests and have lots of
FUN doing it!
Please enquire about
the dates and prices of our next course at the bottom of this

INTRODUCTION TO
TROUT FISHING

BAIT & SPIN TOURS
2010 Price List
Bait and lure
spinning methods are commonly used to catch trout in the Snowy
Mountains and these methods are possibly the best land based
ways of catching a trout. Bait fishing can only be carried out
on the lakes whilst lure spinning can be done on both the lakes
and in the rivers and streams.
Steve Williamson
Fishing Adventures can teach you one or both of these methods of
catching trout!

your responsibility to book a time and pay for the trip first.
Bait fishing and
spinning on the lake is suitable for larger groups.
It is recommended
that 6 people is a maximum for river fishing.
AGE LIMITS
There is an age
limit for Children. Experience has shown us that under 5 is too
young for both methods of instructional fishing.
5 to 8 year olds are better taught to cast
lures as bait fishing can sometimes be boring. (But casting
lures can be dangerous due to the hooks. Casting plugs without
hooks can be used until experience and accuracy happens.)
When bait fishing you have to sit and wait,
be quite and have patience to catch fish.
We do however specialise in teaching children
how to fish. (Just not necessarily catch fish!)

IMPORTANT
INFORMATION
RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH
FISHING.
Steve Williamson’s
Fishing Adventures is a business concerned with teaching you, or
guiding you, in fishing, and the last thing you probably feel
like doing is reading about the risks and signing forms.
However, our
insurance company now requires us tell you of the possible risks
and dangers involved in the seemingly harmless sport of fishing,
so please take the time to read, this carefully.
If you still feel
you are prepared to take responsibility for yourself and/or
those under your care, while undertaking this fishing tour or
instructive course, then we can then continue on the tour.
Should you feel
unsure or worried about any of the items explained below, then
it is best if you consider another activity besides fishing tour
you are about to participate in. We endeavour to reduce the
risks to you, as much as we humanly can.
Fishing should be a
comparatively 'low risk' activity. Nevertheless, there are a
number of risks of physical injury you will take, if you go
fishing on the water or in the Australian bush with Steve
Williamson’s Fishing Adventures.
They include:
1. Fish Hooks / Lures
/ Flies‑ All fish hooks are capable of inflicting serious
injury, especially when around a thrashing fish, whilst casting
or retrieving a stuck hook I recommend eye protection, at least
in the form of strong Polaroid sunglasses, which are handy for
fishing anyway. If you do not have any we can supply them at no
extra cost.
2. Treacherous
terrain ‑ Most tours will involve
wading in rivers or lakes with slippery mud or rock bottoms, and
walking through bush or farmland (often full of rabbit and
wombat holes hidden in tussock grass), some terrain is steep and
slippery. Risk of injury from stumbling or failing will always
exist, so watch your footing and always wear strong footwear,
like hiking boots or sturdy thigh waders. Gum boots are not
recommended.
3. Snakes, spiders
etc. ‑ Poisonous creatures exist
in all fishing spots, remember this is the Australian bush!
Waders and full length clothing [including thick socks] help
provide protection against bites, as does careful observation
while walking.
4. Sunburn
‑ Any outdoor activity involves the risk
of sunburn, especially aquatic activities [including fishing],
as water reflects strong light, even on cloudy days. Follow
Anti-Cancer Council guidelines, regardless of the forecast
weather.
5. Strains and
Sprains ‑ Some people find the
constant casting, bending and crouching causes muscular and
other discomfort or injury, particularly in the legs and back.
You must exercise your judgment to ensure you stop fishing [or
never start] as soon as you feel you risk injury. If you do feel
it necessary to stop, make sure you have the right clothes to
stay warm. Remember the rabbit and wombat holes, look where you
are going at all times.
6. Water and Boats
– A lot of our fishing is done
from a NSW Waterways surveyed vessel. Every effort has been made
to make this vessel as safe as it can be. Under NSW Waterways
regulations for a 2E surveyed vessel, it is necessary for you to
obey all of the captains commands. The master of the vessel must
under law take all reasonable measures to supervise and control
all passengers.
Always remain seated
when underway. No smoking or NO alcohol on the boat please!
On occasions, due to
sudden unpredictable weather changes on the lake, we may find we
are in potentially treacherous water. Often when wading a river
with sudden underwater drop‑offs, or strong currents extra care
must be taken. If you are unsure of yourself in these conditions
‑ don't take risks. Notify the guide of your concern before
setting out, and we will opt for the safer fishing locations.
Always request a life jacket when on the vessel if you can not
swim or you consider the conditions dangerous.
7. Alcohol / Drugs
‑ While it's difficult not to celebrate a good fish with a
drink, I recommend alcohol consumption be confined to the end of
the day when driving, fishing and walking are completed.
Alcohol
consumption greatly increases the risk of injury in any fishing
related activity.
We reserve the right to
refuse, to tour with any person that we believe is under the
influence of alcohol or drugs.
Any payment made already
made will be forfeited, as it is not our fault that the person
should turn up intoxicated.
8. Medical conditions
‑ If you suffer from any medical condition that you feel could
in some way increase your risk of suffering an accident while
fishing, please notify the guide prior to making a deposit.
SWFA has to date never
refused to take any person fishing, including those with
disabilities, however the guide will retain the right to not
take any person fishing that he /she may think may be in any
danger should they participate in the tour.
9. Dress
‑ Warm, weatherproof clothes should always be taken and worn if
necessary. SWTFA does not undertake to supply clothing, however
we can often help with a request should enough prior notice be
supplied.
We also recommend,
especially for full day river fishing trips, that you bring a
full change of clothing just in case you should accidentally
fall into the water.
Your guide has many
years experience in fishing and in the Australian bush. Please
note that although he/she is trained in first aid, he/ she has
no paramedical training.
Finally before
signing -
The above list is not
exhaustive, and if you do not feel completely comfortable about
accepting responsibility for yourself, please do not continue
with this fishing tour.
Other Points:
a. Always check to see
if you are covered for an NSW Angling Licence. You may be
covered whilst on tour however licences are obtainable from
fishing stores, some service stations, and Fisheries Dept
offices.
SWFA accepts no
responsibility for any penalties incurred by clients without
such licences.
b. Cancellations or
reductions in price are at the discretion of the guide.
c. Deposits are not
refundable if cancellation is made by the client 30 days or less
prior to the trip.
d. Cost will determined
beforehand on the basis of the schedule of rates issued by SWFA,
or on the basis of numbers, distance and time frame.
e. Accommodation and/or
transport may be arranged on some tours.
f. Transport to and from
fishing location is done on a complimentary basis and is not
included in the fishing tour charge.
g. Food and drink is not
provided unless otherwise stated.
h. All fishing tackle is
usually included in all tours, however you may bring your own
should you wish.

made 30 days before tour and are also subject to a 20% booking
fee.
