Below you will see some of the latest photos of the current conditions on the lakes and rivers in the Snowy Mountains area.

The Thredbo River looking fantastic.

Only 1 metre below the level the lake was at last Christmas 2010 and the lake is still rising.

The fast rising water level last week, after the rain and storms caught some people out.

13th November 2011

Water is still covering the car park at Discovery Holiday Parks.

15th October after the water level was dropped.

Water level should now start to rise again as the snow continues to melt.

This shallow bank near the boat ramp has the weed to the edge and plenty of bugs for cruising trout.

Fishing has been very good despite the water level dropping.

Water is still high in the lake at 79% even after the water release down the Snowy River over Easter.

Fog is always a problem in Autumn and early winter. Be careful of other water users!

Lake had again risen with rain fall in mountains.

13th December 2010 and not a lot of boat ramp (or parking) left.

The lake is now 83% and higher than in over 10 years!

THREDBO RIVER

24th September 2010

After some good floods down the river over this past winter the river is in pristine condition and with the opening of the river fishing season on the 2nd October there should be some great fishing over the coming months.

With still plenty of snow yet to melt in the mountains, the lake level has yet to rise a lot more yet. Currently 70% level the water is covering new ground rapidly and we should see some fantastic fishing over the coming season.

Fly anglers in particular, will have a fantastic time over this summer fishing the lake margins!

Water release into the Snowy River

Today Monday 20th September we saw a release of water into the lower Snowy River in preparation for future increased releases from Lake Jindabyne into the Snowy River.

Snowy Hydro conducted a large scale test of the Jindabyne Dam Water Release Valves. It was reported this could result in a rise in water levels further down the river by up to 1 metre.

It is not expected to have a major impact on the water level of Lake Jindabyne because the release will only last for about 6 hours.

Finished extension to boat ramp early September 2010.

By 14th September 2010 water had covered most of the new gravel and the lake looks fantastic.

Work is being carried out to extend ramp.

Ramp will be open to use again on the 25th July 2009

Plenty of water coming down the Thredbo River.

Photo taken after storms on the 30th October, the snow level went from 1 metre at Spensors Creek to 500cm over a few days due to warmer conditions and storms.

Look for Yabby banks for the best fishing.

Planer boards get the lures into the edges where the fish are holding out.

The old catholic church steps are out of the water again allowing people visit this historic site. Be careful if boating in this area as there are lots of rocks and trees just under the water.

10th August also saw major dust storms over Jindabyne caused by the strong winds of up to 130 kph.

10th August 2007 saw wind gusts up to 130kph hit the area and it was just plain dangerous to be in the open. If you look closely at this photo you will see one of Snowline Holiday Parks hire boats upside down on their marina. One gust of wind did this.
